Manchester United will be looking to bounce back from last weekend's defeat at Brentford when they welcome Sunderland to Old Trafford for Premier League action on Saturday afternoon.

The Red Devils continue to be predictably inconsistent under Ruben Amorim, with the loss at the Gtech Community Stadium coming after the 2-1 home victory over Chelsea.

As for the Black Cats, Regis Le Bris has done a stellar job on the club's return to the top-flight, collecting 11 points from six matches to help the team to fifth place heading into this latest set of fixtures.

Team news

Casemiro is available after completing his suspension and he could come straight back into United's midfield in place of Manuel Ugarte, who failed to impress in the loss to Brentford.

Defender Leny Yoro will be hoping for a start, as will attacking midfielder Mason Mount, but Lisandro Martinez and Noussair Mazraoui remain injured and Amad Diallo is a doubt due to a personal matter.

Sunderland are without the services of Habib Diarra, Leo Hjelde, Romaine Mundle and Dennis Cirkin due to injury, while Reinildo Mandava serves the second of his three-match ban.

Aji Alese could be involved after overcoming a shoulder issue, although he will likely not be risked until after the international break.

The stats

United's defeat at Brentford last weekend means they are still yet to win back-to-back Premier League games since Amorim took charge in November last year.

Having lost to Arsenal in their opening home match of the season, the Red Devils have since defeated Burnley (3-2) and Chelsea (2-1) at Old Trafford.

United have lost just two of their last 30 league games against Sunderland, who are taking on the 20-time English champions in the Premier League for the first time since a 3-0 loss at the Stadium of Light in April 2017.

The Black Cats recorded a 1-0 win at Nottingham Forest last weekend, extending their unbeaten run to four matches.

Omar Alderete's goal at the City Ground was the first goal Sunderland had scored on their travels this term.

Prediction

Given how inconsistent United continue to be under Amorim, it is difficult to back them with any confidence and they could find life tough against a Sunderland side who have coped well since returning to the Premier League.

With just four goals conceded, the Black Cats have shown defensive resolve, something that can not be said of the Red Devils who have seen their goal breached 11 times.

The Wearsiders have competed well and that has helped deliver some impressive results, but their discipline has slipped a little over recent weeks with eight yellows and one red received across their last four outings.

Last season's Championship play-off winners are expected to have periods of this match when they are under pressure, which could result in fouls being made and cards being handed out.

While United have received a league-low five yellows, it is the opposition who have come a cropper against them in the disciplinary department, especially at Old Trafford.

Arsenal picked up four yellows in their visit, while Chelsea received five yellows and a red and Burnley also had the names of five players taken by the referee.
