After an eventful summer all 24 teams take to the field on Saturday as the 2025/26 League Two season gets underway and Tom Hill has a correct score prediction for every fixture.

  • Barnet and Oldham Athletic have earned promotion from the National League

  • Crawley Town, Bristol Rovers, Cambridge United and Shrewsbury Town drop down from League One

  • Notts County, Chesterfield and Walsall made the play-offs last season

Accrington Stanley vs Gillingham (Saturday, 3pm)

The hosts are well fancied to be relegated this season after a difficult campaign last season. Accrington only won 12 of their 46 games and Gillingham should outclass them under manager Gareth Ainsworth.

The Gills have yet to lose under his stewardship since he took charge in March and some shrewd additions should help them start the season with a win.

Score prediction: Accrington Stanley 0-2 Gillingham

Barnet vs Fleetwood Town (Saturday, 3pm)

Barnet fans will be relishing their return to League Two this weekend and their side can make a big impression.

Dean Brennan's troops scored 97 goals last season on their way to promotion and they should be able to wrestle their way past Fleetwood.

Score prediction: Barnet 2-1 Fleetwood Town

Bristol Rovers vs Harrogate Town (Saturday, 3pm)

After their relegation from the third tier, Bristol Rovers will hope to make a statement on home soil on Saturday.

The Gas have got Darrell Clarke back in the dugout and they may prove too strong for a Harrogate Town team who only scored 17 away goals last season.

Score prediction: Bristol Rovers 2-0 Harrogate Town

Cambridge United vs Cheltenham Town (Saturday, 3pm)

Cambridge will hope to establish themselves as promotion contenders early on this season, but this season opener should be tricky. Cheltenham comfortably finished in mid-table last season and they will dig in once again.

Score prediction: Cambridge United 1-1 Cheltenham Town

Chesterfield vs Barrow (Saturday, 3pm)

Chesterfield will want to go one better than last season's play-off finish and they should win comfortably on the opening weekend against a Barrow side who only won five times away from home last season.

Score prediction: Chesterfield 3-0 Barrow

Colchester United vs Tranmere Rovers (Saturday, 3pm)

Colchester finished 10 places higher than Tranmere last season and the hosts only conceded 15 league goals at home in what was an impressive campaign.

Score prediction: Colchester United 2-0 Tranmere Rovers

Grimsby Town vs Crawley Town (Saturday, 3pm)

Crawley will look to assert themselves after relegation last year, but this looks a tough opening fixture against a Grimsby side that won 20 of their 46 League Two games last season.

Score prediction: Grimsby Town 2-1 Crawley Town

MK Dons vs Oldham Athletic (Saturday, 3pm)

MK Dons are promotion contenders in the eyes of many, but newly promoted Oldham Athletic may be able to secure a point as the hosts have seen four first-team defenders go down with injury this week.

Score prediction: MK Dons 1-1 Oldham Athletic

Newport County vs Notts County (Saturday, 3pm)

An away victory looks likely in this match, with Notts County scoring a league-high 37 away goals last season as they reached the play-offs.

Score prediction: Newport County 0-2 Notts County

Salford City vs Crewe Alexandra (Saturday, 3pm)

Salford just missed out on the play-offs last season in eighth and a close game should be expected here, with Crewe finishing seven points behind them in 13th.

Score prediction: Salford City 1-1 Crewe Alexandra

Shrewsbury Town vs Bromley (Saturday, 3pm)

Bromley punched above their weight last season in League Two and won four of their last six matches to finish 11th. Shrewsbury should hold their own after relegation and the points should be shared in this encounter.

Score prediction: Shrewsbury Town 2-2 Bromley

Walsall vs Swindon Town (Saturday, 3pm)

Walsall will feel that they should have earned automatic promotion last season and they will expect to hit the ground running this weekend.

Ian Holloway's Swindon should be competitive this season after a squad overhaul, though, and they should at least find the back of the net.

Score prediction: Walsall 2-1 Swindon Town
