  • Nottingham Forest are still searching for their first win under Ange Postecoglou

  • Midtjylland are aiming to build from opening 2-0 win over Sturm Graz

  • Recommended bet: Midtjylland or draw double chance

It is a massive night for Nottingham Forest on Thursday as the City Ground plays host to European football for the first time since 1996 when Danish outfit Midtjylland head to the banks of the River Trent for the second round of fixtures in this season’s Europa league.

The Tricky Trees have plenty to prove after a poor start to the season which led to the departure of manager Nuno Espirito Santo and, while his replacement Ange Postecoglou steered Tottenham to glory in this competition last season, he has not hit the ground running.

Their Danish opponents represent a potential banana skin and the East Midlands outfit will not be able to take them lightly.

Team news

Forest will be unable to call upon Ola Aina, Douglas Luiz and Murillo, all of whom are suffering from thigh injuries.

Mike Tullberg’s team were boosted at the weekend by the return of winger Dario Osorio and central defender Martin Erlic.

The stats

Nottingham Forest have not won any of their last seven matches, while Midtjylland have won their last six European matches.

Forest have failed to keep a clean sheet in their last 17 games and the visitors have scored at least twice in 12 of their last 13 matches.

Both teams have scored in three of Forest's last four matches.

Midtjylland have lost just one of their 18 games this season.

Prediction

Forest's new manager Postecoglou could hardly have a better Europa League pedigree after leading Spurs to glory in Bilbao in May.

However, it has been a sticky introduction to life at the City Ground and there is potential for things to get even more uncomfortable on Thursday.

The East Midlanders are still looking for their first win after five matches under the new boss and as he tries to drag his team up following their home defeat to newly promoted Sunderland on Saturday.

His side take on an opponent who have lost just one of their 10 Danish League matches this season but, more pertinently, have won their last six matches in European competition.

Midtjylland should not be ruled out in what could prove to be a nervy night on the banks of the Trent.

Their superior recent experience of continental football could help them leave with something to show for their efforts.
