  • Recommended bet: Haji Wright to score first

Coventry will be looking to press ahead in their bid for promotion from the Championship when they make the trip to struggling Sheffield Wednesday on Saturday.

The Sky Blues are unbeaten in the league this season, collecting 16 points from eight matches to sit second in the standings and will fancy their chances of registering a fifth win of the campaign when heading to Hillsborough.

Off-field issues have made this campaign a real struggle for the Owls and the club currently occupy 23rd position in the standings, kept off the bottom by city rivals United.

Team news

Wednesday have a number of injury issues, with Bruno Fernandes, Di'Shon Bernard, Nathaniel Chalobah and Pierce Charles not expected back for another couple of weeks.

Guilherme Siqueira has been ruled out for the season with an Achilles tendon injury.

As for Coventry, Jack Rudoni is expected back at the end of this month as he continues to recover from a calf issue, while Oliver Dovin is not due to return until January.

The stats

Wednesday are on a three-game unbeaten run, beating Portsmouth 2-0 before recording draws against QPR and Birmingham.

The Owls have failed to win at home in the league from four attempts (L3 D1).

Henrik Pedersen's side have lost the last two Championship meetings against Coventry, going down 2-1 in both encounters.

Coventry, along with leaders Middlesbrough, are the only unbeaten teams left in the division.

Frank Lampard's team have recorded two wins and two draws from their four away outings in the Championship.

Coventry's Haji Wright is the leading scorer in the league with seven goals.

Prediction

Despite all the off-field issues and limited squad, you could argue Wednesday have done well to pick up six points from their opening eight matches and the fact they are on a three-match unbeaten run heading into this contest shows the determination of the players.

But the Owls have struggled to perform at home and they face a huge test against in-form Coventry, who have beaten Birmingham and Millwall to nil in their last two outings and look like real promotion contenders.

There is not much value in backing Lampard's side to come away with all three points, so the better play is to side with United States international Wright to grab the opening goal of the contest.

Wright notched a brace in Wednesday's win at Millwall, the first of those strikes being the opener at The Den, taking his account for the season to eight in all competitions.

The 27-year-old has opened the scoring in three of Coventry's league matches this season, two of those coming away from home, and he can do the same again in Sheffield.
