Charlton vs Blackburn predictions: Tight affair expected at the Valley

Charlton won 1-0 at Sheff Utd to end a run of five games without a win
Blackburn have won two of their last three with clean sheets
Recommended bet: Draw
Charlton denied Chris Wilder a dream return to Sheffield Utd last week, securing a vital 1-0 victory which moved them up to 12th place in the Championship table.
Blackburn, meanwhile, were well on their way to sealing an impressive win over Ipswich Town until the weather intervened, with their game being abandoned after 80 minutes due to a waterlogged pitch.

Team news
Nathan Jones has just one injury problem and that surrounds forward Matthew Godden. The 34-year-old has not played since the play-off final last May, but he is edging closer to a return.
The game against Rovers is a couple of weeks too soon for him, however.
Blackburn will also be missing just the one player for the clash at The Valley on Saturday, with Adam Forshaw still recovering from a hamstring injury and his return date will likely be in early October.
The stats
Matches between these two sides have been hard to come by in recent years. Indeed, their last meeting was during the 2019/20 campaign, with both teams securing away victories in the second tier.
Before then, the clubs faced each other in League One during the 2017/18 season. This time, each team won their respective home fixture.
So far this season, Rovers have scored in four of their six Championship matches, drawing blanks against Norwich City and West Brom.
Charlton have a similar league record, failing to score against Leicester City and Bristol City, although they have registered only four goals in six matches. The Addicks have failed to score more than one goal in any of their league games.
Blackburn's attacking record is only slightly better, scoring five times in six league games, conceding five goals in the process.
Charlton find themselves sitting just two points outside of the play-off spots, while the away side are lingering down in 18th after losing three matches already.

Prediction
Both teams will be desperate for victory in this clash and for the hosts a win could see them rocket up the table.
The visitors, on the other hand, know that they have to start winning games in order to move away from the relegation zone.
As such, expect a tight affair in the capital this weekend and it looks likely that both teams will cancel each other out.
With both teams combining for just nine Championship goals all season, the game should see a focus on defence rather than attack.
