Watford vs Blackburn predictions: Hornets can extend unbeaten run

Watford have lost just one of their last seven Championship home games
Blackburn have lost four of their last five fixtures
Recommended bet: Watford to win
Watford are off to a mixed start with five points taken from four games and they will be looking to kick on when hosting lowly Blackburn at Vicarage Road.
The Hornets have put together a new look squad and started with a 1-0 loss away to newly-promoted Charlton.
However, the Hertfordshire side have shown steady improvement and caught the eye before the international break by twice coming from behind in a 2-2 draw at home to Southampton.
Watford seem to be trending the right way, but the same cannot be said for Blackburn, who have taken just three points from a possible 12.
The Lancashire side finished last season just two points outside of the top six, but they are off to a slow start in 2025-26 and slipped to 19th after a 2-0 defeat at home to Norwich last time out.
Team news
Pierre Dwomoh (thigh) and Nampalys Mendy (match fitness) will need to be assessed but Caleb Wiley (adductor) and Giorgi Chakvetadze (foot) are not quite ready and Imran Louza completes a three-game ban.
Formose Mendy and Jeremy Petris are pushing for inclusion after joining on deadline day.
Blackburn will have to continue with Dom Hyam, who sealed a deadline day move to Wrexham. Sean McLoughlin is suspended but new-signings Taylor Gardner-Hickman and Andri Gudjohnsen are in contention.

Prediction
Watford have added a lot of quality over the summer and should have too much quality for Blackburn this weekend.
There has been substantial change at Vicarage Road with Paulo Pezzolano replacing Tom Cleverley in the dugout and some notable new signings.
The Hornets have focused on adding more firepower and it seems to be working because Nestory Irankunda and Luca Kjerrumgaard are off to flying starts with their new club.
Kjerrumgaard made an impact on his home debut, scoring twice in the 2-1 win over QPR, and Irankunda has shown his quality with stunning strikes in the draws away to Swansea (1-1) and at home to Southampton (2-2).
There is more to come from Pezzolano’s side, but they already look more than a match for Blackburn, who seem to have regressed since last term.
Rovers have lost three of four league games - the exception being a 3-0 success at illness-hit Hull - and their difficult start to the season is set to continue.
