Derby vs Bristol City predictions: Rams can pick up first point

Bristol City have won just one of their last seven away games
Derby have won only two of the teams' last eight meetings
Recommended bet: Draw
Derby fans must already be worried that another tough season lies ahead after losing their first two Championship games of the 2025-26 campaign.
The Rams finished 19th in the second tier last term after a home draw against Stoke on the final day kept them one point ahead of relegated Luton, but they are already back in familiar territory in the bottom six after defeats to Stoke and Coventry.
Neither of those ended up particularly close as Derby lost 3-1 and 5-3, but the shootout with the Sky Blues was a ding-dong battle as John Eustace's side led 3-2 early in the second half before conceding three times in eight minutes.
Bristol City had revenge on their minds when they went to Sheffield United on the opening weekend, atoning for their 6-0 aggregate loss to the Blades in last season's play-offs with a resounding 4-1 win.
The Robins were then held at home by promoted Charlton in a tight goalless draw and they can expect another tough test in the East Midlands.
The teams each won their home game in this match-up last season, with Derby triumphing 3-0 at Pride Park almost a year ago, but a repeat of that impressive result is unlikely.

Team news
Summer arrival Rhian Brewster has a chance to feature for Derby for the first time but Kane Wilson is doubtful to return from a knee injury for this match.
Winger Corey Taylor-Blackett is out with a hamstring injury, while Owen Beck, Curtis Wilson, Lars Jorgen Salvesen, Sondre Langas and Patrick Agyemang are also still sidelined.
City midfielder Joe Williams has had a setback in his recovery from an ankle injury and could be out for a further eight weeks.
Robins manager Gerhard Struber has named the same team for both league matches, but Rob Dickie and Max Bird are candidates to start if he opts for changes, while Fally Mayulu made his first appearance of the season from the bench against Charlton.

Prediction
Derby's performances have not been quite as bad as a record of two two-goal defeats in two games might make it look.
In fact, the Rams led in the second half of both of their Championship matches against Stoke and Coventry.
While they were not capable of hanging on to their advantage either time, they have been competitive for long spells against some decent opposition.
Bristol City fit into that category themselves after last season's top-six finish but they failed to win their home opener against Charlton on Saturday and are worth opposing as favourites on the road.
The Rams won the equivalent fixture 3-0 last August but a first point of the campaign would represent progress for Eustace's side.
They picked up 32 of their 50 league points at home last season and are worth backing to open their account for the season with a draw.
