Two European heavyweights meet in Turin on Tuesday night as Juventus open their Champions League campaign against Borussia Dortmund in a repeat of the 1997 final.

Both sides have enjoyed strong starts to the season, with the Bianconeri winning every game they have played so far and Dortmund going unbeaten across four games in league and cup.

Team news

Juventus are likely to be without Fabio Miretti for the visit of Dortmund, while Francisco Conceicao is also a doubt.

Midfielder Miretti suffered a thigh injury late in pre-season and is yet to feature for the Bianconeri this campaign.

Winger Conceicao, meanwhile, left international duty with Portugal early after picking up a muscle strain.

Dortmund defensive duo Niklas Sule and Nico Schlotterbeck are still recovering from long-term injuries, while captain Emre Can remains sidelined with a groin problem.

Summer signing Fabio Silva is unavailable, while Julien Duranville will also miss out.

However, Dortmund will be boosted by the return of Aaron Anselmino and Julian Brandt to the matchday squad after both players missed Saturday's win at Heidenheim.

The stats

This will be the tenth time Juventus and Borussia Dortmund have met in European competition, the Italian side have won six of the last nine matches and lost only twice.

Dortmund have lost five of their last six Champions League away games against Italian clubs.

Juve have never lost their opening game in the Champions League when kicking off the campaign at home.

Having beaten PSV Eindhoven 3-1 last season, the Bianconeri have won 11 and drawn three of their opening games in Turin.

Dortmund have reached the Champions League knockout stages for the last seven seasons in a row.

Juve head coach Igor Tudor is set to become the fourth individual to play and manage the club in the Champions League after Ciro Ferrara, Antonio Conte and Andrea Pirlo.

Niko Kovac has lost only two of 17 Champions League matches as head coach of Dortmund and Bayern Munich, winning 10 and drawing five.

Prediction

Juventus against Dortmund will see two fierce attacks come up against two mean defences and this has all the ingredients to be a classic.

The Bianconeri fired four past Inter Milan in their last game, while German giants Dortmund have netted eight goals in three matches.

BVB are depleted at the back, but have kept consecutive clean sheets, however, they might not be able to hold out against Juve – who themselves conceded three in Serie A on Saturday following two successful shutouts.

Juve and Dortmund are in the groove in front of goal right now, so plenty of action is expected in both boxes.

With the Bianconeri boasting home advantage and the German side having a poor record in Italy, Juve should emerge victorious.
