- Everton drew 1-1 at Wolves last weekend and are 15th in the Premier League
- West Ham are a place below them on goal difference
- Recommended bet: Both teams to score
David Moyes goes up against his former club West Ham when his Everton side welcome the Hammers to Goodison Park on Saturday.
Since returning to Merseyside for his second stint as manager, Moyes has guided the Toffees away from relegation danger with an impressive unbeaten run.
Graham Potter has been tasked with doing the same at West Ham, but has found it more difficult to achieve consistency, with his new side having lost five of their nine games since he took charge in January.
Team news
Everton’s form is all the more impressive given their threadbare squad, with Orel Mangala, Iliman Ndiaye, Dwight McNeil, Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Armando Broja all out injured.
Vladimir Coufal is close to fitness for West Ham, but this game could come too soon for the defender.
Crysencio Summerville, Michail Antonio and Niclas Fullkrug are all long-term absentees for the Hammers.
The stats
&w=707&quality=100)
Everton are now unbeaten in eight Premier League games, winning four and drawing four.
The Toffees have scored 11 goals in their last four league games at Goodison Park, at an average of 2.75-goals-per-match, while they have conceded six during that run.
West Ham followed back-to-back wins against Arsenal and Leicester with a home defeat to Newcastle on Monday night.
The Hammers have scored in each of their last nine away games across all competitions.
Prediction
Moyes has the chance to take some revenge against his former club West Ham, who decided to move on from their most successful manager of modern times over the summer.
Despite the Scot delivering the Hammers’ first trophy since 1980 when they won the Europa Conference League in 2023, many of their fans did not enjoy his style of play and he was not afforded a new contract last year.
Yet his successor Julen Lopetegui’s reign in London was a disaster and though the new manager Potter recently masterminded a win at Arsenal, consistent results remain elusive.
West Ham’s struggles have only shown to highlight what a fine job Moyes did at the club and he has certainly transformed Everton since returning for his second spell on Merseyside.
An impressive aspect of the job that Moyes has done, considering his reputation for dour football, is to get an Everton side lacking firepower to score regularly again and it seems likely that there will be goals at both ends again on Saturday.
