England were held to a 0-0 draw by Slovenia on Sunday and they approach their Group B contest against Germany, aware that a poor result could signal the end of their European Under-21 Championship challenge.

Lee Carsley's side are second in the section, two points behind leaders Germany and three clear of Slovenia, who finish their group schedule against the already eliminated Czech Republic.

And they will be aware that a loss to the Germans could open the door for Slovenia, who would need to win their game and see where that leaves them with regards to goal difference.

England's fate is in their hands, with a victory required to take them through as Group B winners.

Team news

Carsley may be pondering changes after his team failed to break down Slovenia on Sunday.

Jay Stansfield, Omari Hutchinson and Tom Fellows are among the offensive players pushing to be involved from the off.

Germany head coach Antonio Di Salvo must decide how many changes to make now that qualification for the quarter-finals has been assured.

Highly-rated Mainz striker Nelson Weiper has made two substitute appearances and could be in line for his first start of the tournament.

Prediction

Germany U21s boss Antonio Di Salvo may make changes after wins in his team's opening two matches

England left their shooting boots behind when drawing 0-0 with Slovenia on Sunday but they can ensure a continuation of their European Under-21 Championship campaign by defeating Germany at Stadion pod Zoborom in Nitra.

Germany are in the happy position of having qualified for the quarter-finals with a game to spare and their head coach, Di Salvo, will almost certainly take the opportunity to rest some of his key players.

The 45-year-old will be eager to see what his fringe players have to offer, but it could be a tough learning curve for them against an England team desperate to avoid an early flight home.

England and Germany always looked like being the top teams in Group B but there should be a bit of extra intensity in the Young Lions' camp and that may be enough to settle a close contest.
