Emma Hayes insists she is still not thinking about winning a potential quadruple after Chelsea reached the Conti Cup final.

The Blues beat Women's Super League title rivals Manchester City 1-0 at the Joie Stadium as Lauren James bagged the only goal of the game early in the first half.

Chelsea will play Arsenal in the final after the Gunners' 4-0 win over Aston Villa in the other semi-final.

The West Londoners will be eager to win the first piece of silverware available this season, although even that would likely not spark talk in the dressing room of claiming four trophies.

Hayes, who will take the United States Women's manager role at the end of the season, told the BBC: "I spend zero time talking about it [the quadruple]. None of us discuss it.

"We just wanted to get into a final tonight and I'm delighted we’re going into another Conti Cup [final] against Arsenal."

Chelsea were made to work very hard for victory against City, with Blues goalkeeper Hannah Hampton the star of the show as the hosts registered 10 shots on target and 64% possession.

And the resolute defensive display was a great source of happiness for Hayes, particularly with a busy schedule and injury issues to contend with.

The Blues boss, 47, said: "It felt like the reverse fixture two weeks ago where they went 1-0 up and defended in great numbers. Same for us tonight.

"We scored early and I thought we defended really well. Unbelievable performance from Hannah Hampton.

"We only had one registered centre-back and one centre forward. We were pretty thin this evening so it's a tremendous result for the team.

"Since Christmas we've got better defensively. There aren't a lot of things between these two teams.

"They have had fewer games than us and been able to play the same line-up. I haven't. For us to do what we did tonight is real credit to the whole team."
