Kylian Mbappe to be top goalscorer

The expanded Club World Cup kicks off in the early hours of Sunday, June 15 and runs throughout the next month before the finale at the MetLife Stadium on Sunday, July 13.

With Europe’s top teams competing, along with South America’s biggest names and a host of teams from the other four confederations, there will be plenty of goalscoring talent on display in the United States, and Kylian Mbappe is the favourite to be the top goalscorer.

Manchester City’s Erling Haaland is second in the betting, slightly shorter than Bayern Munich’s Harry Kane.

Mbappe to shine in the States

Real Madrid lead the betting market to win the Club World Cup and their hopes will likely hinge on the continued success of Kylian Mbappe.

The France captain finished his first season in Madrid as the European Golden Shoe winner thanks to a sensational end to the campaign, and he carried that goalscoring form into the June international break.

He scored and assisted in both of France’s UEFA Nations League ties last week, leaving him with 12 goals in his last eight appearances for club and country, and the 26-year-old will be licking his lips at the prospect of getting at his group-stage opponents.

His recent flurry of goals took his tally to 42 for the season for Real Madrid, and Los Blancos have been handed one of the weakest groups in the Club World Cup in Al-Hilal, Pachuca, and Red Bull Salzburg.

Real Madrid should begin the Xabi Alonso era with comfortable victories over all three of those sides, and Mbappe will be eager to fill his boots before heading to the knockout stages.

Bundesliga duo could challenge Los Blancos star

Another team handed a favourable group-stage draw is Bayern Munich, and that may allow Harry Kane to keep pace with Mbappe and challenge for the top spot.

Kane has scored 38 goals for Die Bayern en route to his first-ever major trophy this season, ending the campaign with four goals in his final five appearances. Rank outsiders Auckland City, who are 1000/1 with LiveScore Bet to win the Club World Cup, are included in Group C alongside Vincent Kompany’s side, and that could be where Kane’s tally explodes.

Two of the six teams furthest down in the betting occupy fellow Germans Borussia Dortmund’s group, too, and striker Serhou Guirassy may fancy his chances of bagging a few against the likes of Ulsan HD, Mamelodi Sundowns, and Fluminense.

Guirassy notched a career-high 34 goals for Dortmund this season and, like Mbappe and Kane, ended the 2024/25 campaign with a flourish, hitting nine goals in his final six games.

Borussia Dortmund finished a disappointing fourth in the Bundesliga, but Guirassy may fire his club to a deep run in the Club World Cup.
