Liverpool have become accustomed to being the team with most at stake in their recent matches, but the boot is now on the other foot with all the pressure on Chelsea in Sunday's Premier League game at Stamford Bridge.

The Reds wrapped up a league title in Arne Slot's first season as manager with their 5-1 thrashing of Tottenham last weekend and the positive mood at Anfield could continue through their relatively unimportant final four league matches.

Chelsea are very much still in must-win mode and they went into the weekend hanging on to the fifth and final Champions League qualification place only on goal difference from Nottingham Forest, with Aston Villa still also in the hunt three points behind.

The Blues' performance levels remain inconsistent but their results have improved and Thursday's Conference League win in Sweden over Djurgardens was their third success in a row.

This match against the new champions is hardly in an ideal spot in their schedule, though, and manager Enzo Maresca would probably prefer to be playing a less talented team this weekend.

With further tough tests and Newcastle and Nottingham Forest to come, a home win over the champions would be a huge boost for the Blues but accomplishing it may not be easy.

Team news

Liverpool manager Arne Slot has said he will rotate his side to give opportunities to some of his squad members who were not regular starters in their title chase, but he has high-quality players likely to come in with Harvey Elliott and Federico Chiesa among those who could get a chance in London. Connor Bradley may be involved after injury but Joe Gomez is still sidelined.

Chelsea are still without Wesley Fofana, Omari Kellyman and Marc Guiu due to injuries, while Mykhaylo Mudryk is suspended. Robert Sanchez and Christopher Nkunku will be checked on after missing their midweek match.

The stats

Both teams have scored in four of Chelsea's last five league and cup matches.

The Blues have scored exactly one goal in five of their last six home games.

Chelsea have been leading at half-time in only one of their last seven league matches.

There have been over 2.5 goals in five of Chelsea's last six league and cup matches.

Liverpool have lost only one of their 17 away league games this season.

Liverpool have won seven of their last eight league matches.

The Reds have not lost on any of their last seven visits to Stamford Bridge in all competitions.

Prediction

Chelsea will be grateful that Liverpool need nothing from this game but that situation has been fully accounted for in the match odds and the Blues are easy to oppose as short-priced favourites against the champions.

Liverpool have had plenty of time to celebrate their title success and while they have had a week off since Sunday's 5-1 thrashing of Tottenham, Chelsea were in Sweden on Thursday night for a demanding match against Djurgardens in the Conference League.

Also considering that Chelsea drew with Ipswich, lost to Legia Warsaw and beat Everton 1-0 in their last three home games, the hosts are best avoided.

One Premier League battle that is not quite over for Liverpool is the race to be top scorer, and while Mohamed Salah has a healthy six-goal lead over Newcastle's Alexander Isak, he will have his sights set on adding two more to his tally by the end of the campaign to reach the 30-goal mark.

Salah opened the scoring from the penalty spot in Liverpool's 2-1 Anfield win over the Blues in October and ended his first four-game goal drought in the Premier League this season when slamming home the fourth goal in his side's rout of Spurs last week.

The former Chelsea player scored in a 2-2 league draw between the teams at Stamford Bridge in 2022 and could hamper his old club's ambitions again.
