Both teams to score

Northern Ireland’s Women saw their hopes of topping their UEFA Nations League pool ended by a home loss to Poland on Friday, but they can still earn promotion to the top tier of the competition with a positive result in Zenica.

The visitors are guaranteed a play-off with a League A side if they avoid defeat in this trip and given their good record in recent clashes with Bosnia, NI will be hoping to bounce back from their recent defeat.

Team news

NI moved to a back five in both clashes with Poland, but they should revert to a back four in this clash.

They played a 4-4-2 when they beat Bosnia 3-2 at Inver Park earlier this year, but Tanya Oxtoby's side played a 4-5-1 system in their previous visit to Bosnia.

Linfield defender Abi Sweetlove is in line to drop out of the side, if NI move away from a back-five.

Bosnia started with a 4-3-3 in their last game and they are expected to stick with that shape. Basel forward Milena Nikolic should lead the line once again.

Both teams have scored in two of the previous three meetings.

NI won 3-1 in Bosnia in April 2024, while they were 3-2 winners when the pair met in this group earlier this year.

Bosnia have conceded 11 times across their last four internationals.

NI have managed only one clean sheet across their last seven away games. However, they have scored in seven of their last 10 on the road.

The hosts have recorded only four clean sheets across their previous 26 matches.

Prediction

Bosnia & Herzegovina have the chance to leap above Northern Ireland with a victory, but they need a two-goal win in order to wrestle the head-to-head advantage away from the visitors.

That means the hosts need to go for it in their final group game, but their defensive issues could be a problem. The Bosnians have conceded in 22 of their last 26 international matches, while they have shipped 11 goals in their last four games in this Nations League group.

Northern Ireland have proven a problem for them in recent times, scoring eight goals in a three-game winning run against the hosts. That includes a 3-1 win in Bosnia last year.

The visitors are used to high-scoring away trips, having netted in seven of their last 10 on the road, while conceding in six of their previous seven. It is easy to see this one going back and forth, as the pair search for the result they need to secure second.

Northern Ireland carry plenty of threat in this trip and they should get a little more space than in their heavy loss to Poland.
