Niko Kovac will be looking for a home win over Lille in the first leg of Borussia Dortmund's last-16 Champions League tie

- Dortmund beat Sporting CP in the play-off round
- Lille finished seventh in the League Phase
- Recommended bet:
Borussia Dortmund to win and both teams to score

Last season's beaten finalists Borussia Dortmund will expect to make the quarter-finals of the Champions League this time around by knocking out French side Lille in the last 16.

Dortmund had to overcome Sporting in the play-off round after finishing 10th in the League Phase, while Lille were automatic qualifiers due to their seventh-place finish.

The German side are on a two-game winning streak after Bundesliga victories over Union Berlin and St Pauli, while Lille's two-game winning run in Ligue 1 came to an end with a 4-1 defeat at leaders Paris Saint-Germain on Saturday.

Team news

Felix Nmecha and Filippo Mane remain absent for Dortmund, but Julian Brandt came off the bench late on against St Pauli on Saturday after a recent niggling injury so he could feature.

Lille are unlikely to have any of their injured players back in time for Tuesday's first leg, so Edon Zhegrova, Remy Cabella, Samuel Umtiti and Tiago Santos are all set to be ruled out.

The stats

Dortmund beat Club Brugge, Celtic, Sturm Graz, Dinamo Zagreb and Shakhtar Donetsk in the first stage but lost to Real Madrid, Barcelona and Bologna.

Lille were impressive winners over Real Madrid, Atletico Madrid, Bologna, Sturm Graz and Feyenoord in the league phase, while they drew with Juventus and lost to Sporting and Liverpool.

Dortmund have kept clean sheets in four of their last five games in all competitions.

Lille have scored in each of their last 11 matches in all competitions and have only failed to find the back of the net in one of their Champions League games this season.

The winners of this tie will face either Benfica or Barcelona in the last eight.

Prediction

Dortmund approach the first leg against Lille on the back of two straight Bundesliga wins, Niko Kovac's side hammered Union Berlin 6-0 before a 2-0 victory at St Pauli on Saturday.

They have only conceded two goals across their last five games and should be able to secure a vital first-leg lead over Lille, although the visitors look capable of breaching the hosts' defence as they have scored in their last 11 outings.

Lille suffered a demoralising 4-1 defeat at leaders PSG in Ligue 1 on Saturday, when they were 4-0 down at half-time and, while this Euro clash is unlikely to be as one-sided, BVB look set to come out on top.

Only Barca have won at Signal Iduna Park in the Champions League this season and Dortmund were impressive 3-0 aggregate winners over Sporting CP in the play-off round to suggest that they should have too much for Lille.
