Blackpool secure overdue league victory with convincing display at Exeter
Blackpool picked up their first league win since December 14 as their first-half blitz earned them a 3-1 win at Exeter in Sky Bet League One.
The Tangerines almost went in front after eight minutes, but Tom Bloxham’s curling shot came back off the upright.
Exeter striker Josh Magennis forced a good save from Harry Tyrer, but Blackpool took the lead in the 33rd minute when a superb counter, led by Odel Offiah, saw the ball played to CJ Hamilton.
While his first touch was poor, he got his shot away and the ball squirmed past Joe Whitworth and into the net.
In the 44th minute it was 2-0 as a long ball over the top found Bloxham and he weaved his way past Kevin McDonald and then Whitworth before firing into an open goal.
It was 3-0 in first-half stoppage time when a horrendous pass from Pat Jones was seized upon by Bloxham and he laid the ball into the path of Ashley Fletcher, who was left with a tap-in.
Exeter were to pull a goal back in the 82nd minute through Millenic Alli’s low, drilled finish, but despite their spirited second-half performance, it was all they had to show for their efforts.
