Plymouth or draw double chance

John Eustace has left Championship play-off chasers Blackburn in order to take over at a relegation-threatened Derby and this will be Rovers’ first home league game without the services of their former manager.

Blackburn rose to the challenge under the interim guidance of David Lowe to claim a 2-0 victory at play-off rivals West Brom on Wednesday and they will be hoping that they can repeat the trick against Plymouth at Ewood Park.

Plymouth remain in the Championship’s relegation zone but league victories over West Brom and Millwall either side of the shock FA Cup scalp of Premier League leaders Liverpool have given them renewed confidence in the battle to beat the drop.

Team news

Blackburn have a lengthy injury list to contend with as Hayden Carter, Harry Leonard, Yuki Ohashi, Harry Pickering, Sondre Tronstad and Scott Wharton remain on the sidelines.

Centre-back Danny Batth is also a doubt after limping off in the first half of Wednesday’s 2-0 win at West Brom and Icelandic midfielder Arnor Sigurdsson is lacking match fitness having been out since October.

For Plymouth, the treatment table is less congested with defender Brendan Galloway and experienced midfielder Joe Edwards their only two confirmed absentees.

The stats

Blackburn have won only three of their last 12 Championship games.

Plymouth have lost only two of their last 10 matches in all competitions, winning three in a row.

Both teams have scored in only two of Blackburn’s last 14 league games at Ewood Park.

Plymouth have failed to win any of their 15 away league games this season, with both teams scoring in only four of those encounters.

Eight of Blackburn's 12 Championship defeats this season have been by a single goal.

Prediction

Plymouth moved off the bottom of the Championship with Wednesday's emphatic 5-1 victory at home to Millwall and they can further boost their survival hopes by avoiding defeat at play-off-chasing Blackburn.

Argyle are now unbeaten in four games in all competitions, having earned a 2-2 draw at fourth-placed Sunderland before a 2-1 win at home to sixth-placed West Brom, while their shock 1-0 victory over Premier League leaders Liverpool in the FA Cup fourth round was one of the results of the season.

With confidence levels on the rise, Miron Muslic’s side should fancy their chances of claiming another positive result at Blackburn, who have lost five of their last seven matches.

Rovers are not consistently performing like a team currently in the play-off places and the surprise departure of manager Eustace to Derby may make it difficult for them to keep up the pace until the end of the season.
