Aston Villa vs Ipswich Predictions: Tractor Boys are stuck in a rut

Spotlight

- Both teams have scored in each of Aston Villa's last seven matches on home soil
- Ipswich have lost their last four league matches, conceding 14 goals along the way
- Recommended bet: Aston Villa to win & both teams to score

Aston Villa are winless in three Premier League matches but they have the chance to get back on track with a home fixture against an Ipswich side who look all but destined for the drop.

The Tractor Boys are marooned in the bottom three of the Premier League, three points adrift of safety.

Only wins will realistically do for the Suffolk side but another defeat looks likely on Saturday for a side who have lost four on the bounce, shipping goals at an alarming rate.

Team news

Ezri Konsa was forced off the field in the FA Cup win over Spurs and is a doubt for this contest.

Tyrone Mings (knee), Ollie Watkins (groin) and Ross Barkley (calf) could all feature, but Pau Torres (ankle) and Matty Cash (unspecified) remain absent for the Villans.

Donyell Malen could continue in attack depending on the fitness of Watkins, but Marcus Rashford or Marco Asensio could also make their first starts for the club.

Sammie Szmodics went off injured in last week's FA Cup win over Coventry, and he looks set to be one of five guaranteed absentees for Ipswich alongside Chiedozie Ogbene (Achilles), Wes Burns (knee), Christian Walton (groin) and Conor Chaplin (knee).

Julio Enciso and Omari Hutchinson should return this weekend, while new goalkeeper Alex Palmer is set to make his first ever appearance in the Premier League.

The stats

Ipswich have hit the net in four of their last five matches on the road.

The Tractor Boys have conceded at least two goals in their last five Premier League games.

Both teams have scored in each of Aston Villa's last seven matches on home soil.

Villa haven't kept a clean sheet in any of their last six outings.

It finished 2-2 when these two met earlier in the campaign at Portman Road.

Prediction

Aston Villa and Ipswich drew 2-2 earlier on in the Premier League season and another entertaining affair looks likely at Villa Park.

Both sides like to play on the front but the extra quality in the home ranks suggests Villa look well placed to win a match in which both teams score.

Goals have been flying in in fixtures involving each of these teams, with the Villans seeing goals at both ends in their last seven matches on home soil.

And clean sheets have been an issue for the Birmingham-based outfit, who failed to hold an opponent at bay in any of their last six fixtures.

That should offer hope to an Ipswich side who look destined for the drop but it won't stop them playing their attacking way and they could bag at least one goal in another losing effort.

The Tractor Boys have scored in four of their last five matches on the road, and there is a good chance Kieran McKenna’s plucky side can extend that sequence in this contest.
