One of the highlights of the British flat racing season, the five-day festival known across the country as ‘Glorious Goodwood’ opens on Tuesday, July 29th, and runs until Saturday, August 2nd.
Ahead of the first day of the iconic festival, we have taken a look at the festival in more detail, including popular betting markets and the schedule ahead of the event.
Highly anticipated each summer in the UK, Glorious Goodwood features a total of 39 races over five days. It is held at Goodwood Racecourse in Chichester, West Sussex, and is known for embracing ‘quintessentially British style’, with fashion awards, and plenty of other action happening at the racecourse.
Its most prominent races include the Sussex Stakes, the Goodwood Cup Stakes, the Nassau Stakes, and several group races to make for non-stop action and entertainment for punters and racegoers.
One of the most popular and easiest ways to bet on racing is by placing a win bet. This involves simply betting on the horse that you think will win a particular race. Place your money on your chosen runner, and if they cross the line first, your bet should be a success.
Similar to Win bets, simply place a bet on the horse that you think will win the race and who will place in the race. This is two bets in one, offering more opportunities for success. Bookmakers tend to offer places for the first three horses to finish, but this can sometimes be more.
A great way for punters to have multiple chances of their selection being a success, Each Way Extra bets allow bettors to increase or decrease the number of places in a race when betting each way. Add places for a reduced price, or remove places and increase the odds available on your selection.
A really straightforward way to bet on the races, Place bets involve punters wagering on a horse to place in a race. Depending on the number of runners in a race, this is in the first three places. With three chances of success, these are a popular bet on the Glorious Goodwood Festival.
Another popular way to bet on horse racing and Glorious Goodwood is by placing Forecast or Tricast bets. A forecast bet involves punters selecting horses to finish 1st and 2nd, and getting these right, in the correct order. A Tricast is the same, but instead it is picking three horses instead of two.
