The Cincinnati Open: What is it?

One of the biggest tennis tournaments of the year, it is one of nine Masters’ tournaments for the men’s ATP and one of five premier events for the women’s WTA. It is now in its 126th year of the tournament and welcomes almost 200,000 fans.

It attracts lots of the best players in the sport to compete in the final event before the last Grand Slam of the year, the US Open. 

It takes place annually in the summer, often in August, preceding the Canadian Open. The tournament is played on hard courts.

Tennis fans can also expect plenty of home representation with 10 players from the USA, including number 4 seed Taylor Fritz, number 7 seed Ben Shelton and number 2 seed Coco Gauff.

There are also many British stars competing at the tournament, including British No 1 Emma Raducanu, Sonay Kartal, and Cam Norrie. Jack Draper is expected to miss out through injury, making Novak Djokovic the number five seed.
